WWE News: Cain Velasquez to Return at Royal Rumble, Edge Denies Rumor
The Royal Rumble is scheduled to take place on January 26th, and the talk of who will and who will not be appearing at the event has already begun.
Dave Meltzer in his Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that former UFC Champion Cain Velasquez will be returning to the WWE at the Royal Rumble this year. Velasquez debuted at WWE Crown Jewel on October 31st, losing to WWE Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar by submission. Velasquez was scheduled to compete in Mexico City in November for WWE, but was removed from the card due to knee injury.
What isn’t known is if Velasquez will face Brock Lesnar again or be part of the men’s Royal Rumble match.
One wrestler who is seemingly denying that he will be competing at the Royal Rumble this year is WWE Hall of Famer Edge. After reports came out yesterday from PWInsider that Edge was planning a return to the ring (TJRWrestling), Edge tweeted out the following, seemingly shooting down these reports.
Still not and still not. Period.

Matt’s Musings: Cain Velasquez’s career barely got started in WWE before he was sidelined with an injury. Let’s hope Velasquez’s return to a WWE ring can last longer and be more successful.
As for Edge, I will always hold out hope that he gets to wrestle that one more match that he deserves. If not, however, he will still be remembered as one of the greatest to ever step into a WWE ring.
