WWE Officially Announces New Championship Tournament
At WWE NXT Heatwave on August 24, 2025, NXT General Manager Ava made a big announcement stating that both the Men’s and Women’s WWE Speed Championships would officially be defended on the NXT brand going forward.
A few weeks after Heatwave, Ava announced that a tournament for the Men’s Speed Championship would begin on NXT. On the October 14, 2025, episode of NXT, she confirmed the lineup for the tournament, revealing that WWE SmackDown’s Axiom would face Evolve’s Sean Legacy, and TNA’s Zachary Wentz would battle NXT’s Jasper Troy. The pathway was set for the winner to challenge for the title on NXT TV or an upcoming premium event.
Right now, the current WWE Men’s Speed Champion is El Grande Americano. He won the belt in May 2025 after defeating Dragon Lee for the title. Gable has held the championship for over 156 days as of October 15, 2025, making him the longest-reigning Speed Champion so far.

WWE NXT World Title Defenses Scheduled for Halloween Havoc
On October 14, 2025, during the NXT show, Ricky Saints called out Trick Williams for leaving him high and dry during their recent NXT vs. TNA match. Saints challenged Williams to face him for the NXT Championship at the upcoming Halloween Havoc event. However, when Williams appeared in a video response, he declined the challenge, dismissing Saints’ callout.
Later in the same episode, Williams attacked Saints backstage, making it clear that he was accepting the championship challenge after all. Williams ended the confrontation by warning Saints that they would settle their score at Halloween Havoc on October 25, 2025. The two will come face to face in an official contract signing on the October 21 episode of NXT, setting the stage for their championship showdown.
On the women’s side, Jacy Jayne will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Tatum Paxley at Halloween Havoc. Paxley earned her number one contender spot by winning a 20-woman battle royal on October 14, outlasting competitors including her own faction teammate Izzi Dame.
