Why WWE Never Reached Out To Bring Back Muhammad Hassan
Muhammad Hassan hasn’t been brought back to the WWE since his exit in 2005.
Muhammad Hassan made headwaves when he was introduced in the WWE back in 2004. However, his career in the promotion was short-lived and was never brought back in any capacity. In a recent conversation, the former WWE Superstar answered why he was ever called back to work in the company again.
During his career as a WWE Superstar, Muhammad Hassan had faced off against some of the top names such as Shawn Michaels, John Cena, Chris Jericho and many more. His final feud was against The Undertaker and because of public sentiment at that time, he was written off television and never returned to WWE.
In the recent Fightful Podcast, the 45-year-old star addressed his career and that of those close to him. He spoke about why he was never brought back into the WWE, addressing his attitude in the locker room and his surroundings.
“No, and I wouldn’t expect them to. I mean, I have always taken responsibility for my misteps in the locker room and outside the locker room. I wasn’t a perfect person back then. I definitely learned a lot. That was a tough locker room and Shawn had said that to me a lot of times after, and Shane Helms knows what he is talking about. I respect Shane’s opinion about anything. It was a different locker room and scene. The character would have never worked in 2016, obviously because of the change in society, but would I have worked better in that locker room? Maybe. But that’s something I look back at and accept responsibility for, and I made plenty of mistakes and have learned from them.” [21:55 – 22:37]
Why Was Muhammad Hassan Taken Off WWE TV?
In 2005, WWE removed the Muhammad Hassan character, played by Marc Copani, after major backlash over a controversial segment. A pre-taped attack involving masked men aired the same day as the London bombings, leading to outrage due to its perceived insensitivity.
The timing caused UPN, WWE’s broadcasting partner, to demand Hassan’s removal. WWE complied, ending his storyline at The Great American Bash, where The Undertaker hit him with The Last Ride through an open stage ramp.
