WWE’s Natalya Details How She Overcame Legal Blindness

Natalya used her time away from WWE to take care of a personal issue.

For over 16 years, Natalya Neidhart has been one of the most recognizable women in all of WWE.

In addition to her success in the ring as a former Women’s Champion, Natalya has been honored for her career milestones with multiple Guinness World Records including the most matches by a female in WWE history, most PLE/PPV matches by a woman, most Raw matches for a woman and other things.

This year, Natalya has been on the sidelines for a long period of time, which included the summer when it was announced that she had signed a new contract to remain with WWE.

There was another more personal reason why Natalya was away from WWE.

Natalya Corrected Issues With Her Eyes

During an interview with The Takedown On SI, Natalya revealed that she had eye surgery to correct an issue that she had been dealing with regarding her left eye.

“I don’t think even really anybody in WWE knew about it because I kept it pretty secretive. I was born with astigmatism. I was legally blind in my left eye.”

“They didn’t have the technology to fix it. (I) Didn’t qualify for LASIK because of how my eye was shaped. At that time, the procedure that they had for (a) lens implant, because of the shape of my eye, I didn’t qualify for it.”

“I was like screw it. I’m not going to wear the contact lens. I’m literally just going to take it out and just let my right eye do all the work.”

As she continued, Natalya spoke about signing her new WWE deal while also taking that time off to fix her eye.

“I had a little time off this summer in between my contract re-signing. And I was like, if I had this time off, I’m going to ask WWE if I can get this fixed because I went and found an eye doctor. Newsom Eye in Tampa. They had the technology that they didn’t have before.”

“They even strengthened my right eye. I had surgery in my right eye to get (it) even stronger so that my right eye (and) my left eye are totally in sync with each other.”

Since coming back to the WWE Raw brand, Natalya has picked up some wins in singles matches and tag team matches.
