Why WWE Must Turn Randy Orton Heel Right Now

Randy Orton

A WWE Hall of Famer has made the point that Randy Orton needs to go back to his heel ways.

Over the last 23 years, Randy Orton has established himself as one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time, who is destined for the WWE Hall of Fame whenever he decides to retire.

The 45-year-old Orton is a 14-time WWE World Champion who has spent most of the last five years as one of the biggest babyfaces in WWE. However, it wasn’t always that way for him. Many fans remember Orton for being one of the meanest, cold-hearted heels in the history of wrestling.

While wrestling fans today chant “RKO” for Orton’s beloved finishing move and sing his legendary “Voices” theme song, many of those same fans likely want him to return to his heelish ways.

Mark Henry is a WWE Hall of Famer who knows Orton well. In fact, when Henry won his only WWE World Title, he did it by beating Orton in September 2011. During an appearance on Inside the Ring, Henry spoke about how Orton needs to go back to being the most hated man in WWE.

“Some people think he’s being underused right now, and I’m one of those people. But I wouldn’t want Randy to be champion as good guy Randy. I want Randy in the role that’s tailor-made for him—coming in, punting people again, RKO’ing people’s grandmothers and kids, stomping everyone. Let Randy be Randy.”

Regarding the people who think Orton is underused, count Randy’s wife, Kim, among that group, as she expressed her sentiments on social media.

Randy Orton Should Be Himself, According To Mark Henry

As he continued, Mark Henry told the story of the frog and the scorpion, with Randy Orton playing the scorpion, of course. Henry also went on to praise Orton’s legacy as a heel.

“He’s gotta shave his head too. You can’t trust the snake. You’ve heard that story about the frog and the scorpion? The toad’s sitting by the pond, minding his business, and the scorpion comes up and says, ‘Hey man, give me a ride to the other side.’ The toad says, ‘No way, you’re a scorpion. You’ll sting me and kill me.’

The scorpion says, ‘Why would I do that? I need your help to get across.’ So the toad agrees, and halfway across, the scorpion stabs him full of poison. The toad says, ‘Why would you do that? Now we’re both gonna die.’ And the scorpion says, ‘You knew I was a scorpion when I got on your back.’

That’s Randy Orton. That’s who he is. Let that guy be himself, because he’s so good at it. Can you really say anyone was more definitively a better heel than Randy when he’s a heel?”

On the October 3rd edition of the WWE SmackDown, Randy Orton will team up with WWE Champion Cody Rhodes against The Vision’s Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed. If Orton does turn heel, turning against his good friend Rhodes could be the catalyst for this change.
