7-time WWE Champion AJ Styles went head-to-head with John Cena in a singles match at WWE Crown Jewel 2025, held on October 11 at the RAC Arena in Perth, Australia.

The match was special because it marked the first time in over seven years that these two legendary stars had squared off one-on-one, and it carried big significance on Cena’s retirement tour. Styles wore his TNA gear to celebrate his legacy, and both men pulled off moves inspired by opponents from their past. At the end of the match, The Never Seen 17 picked up the win by pinfall.

Like John Cena, AJ Styles is nearing retirement, and he’s been open about ending his career soon. Just before Crown Jewel PLE, The Phenomenal One revealed during the kick-off event in Perth that he’ll retire sometime in 2026. The reason he gave for hanging up his boots was that he wanted to retire without embarrassing himself in the ring due to old age.

Styles also said he wants to spend more time with family, and doesn’t plan to stick around the ring much longer to keep wrestling past his prime. Styles also hinted at training or producing for WWE after retirement, suggesting he’ll probably stick around to help the next generation once his wrestling days are over. Eversince Styles officially announced his retirement, rumors have been swirling about him jumping ship to AEW before he hangs up his wrestling boots.

WWE Legend AJ Styles Is Not Interested In AEW

Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp debunked the rumors in his latest report. According to Sapp, there’s a “very slim chance” AJ Styles would ever sign with AEW. Sources close to Styles say he’s super happy with his position in WWE and has zero interest in making a last-minute promotion change. Styles’ contract is set to expire in early 2026, but there’s no sign he’ll leave for AEW or pull any surprise moves before retiring.
