WWE Moves Sasha Banks To Alumni Section On Website Roster
Sasha Banks is no longer part of the active WWE roster according to the company’s official website.
It was earlier this week at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event on January 4th when former WWE Superstar Sasha Banks made her debut in the promotion using the name Mercedes Moné. Her real name is Mercedes Varnado. At the event, she confronted IWGP Women’s Champion KAIRI and dropped her with a move followed by a promo.
Banks walked out of WWE back in May 2022 after she was disappointed at how the company was booking her and Naomi as the Women’s Tag Team Champions. While there were a lot of rumors about Banks coming back to the company, especially after Vince McMahon’s July retirement, she chose to not return. Instead, her contract expired and she was free to work for another promotion starting January 1st, 2023.
On the WWE.com Superstar page, they have a “WWE Alumni” section that Banks is now part of it. Here’s a screenshot from my computer showing where she is on there since it’s listed in alphabetical order.
Meanwhile, Sasha’s former tag team partner Naomi remains on the Smackdown roster on WWE’s website. A recent report about Naomi said that she is “certainly returning” to WWE and with the Royal Rumble coming on January 28th, that could be when WWE chooses to bring her back, if not sooner.
During her WWE career, Sasha Banks was a six-time Women’s Champion on the main roster along with a three-time Women’s Tag Team Champion. She also headlined WrestleMania 37 night one when she lost the Smackdown Women’s Title to Bianca Belair.
As for the future of Mercedes Mone, there are some people that believe that she is heading to AEW Dynamite next Wednesday, January 11th as Saraya’s tag team partner against Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter. Even though Saraya named Toni Storm as her partner, there could be a twist leading to Mercedes Mone taking that spot.
It was covered earlier today on TJRWrestling that there are people within WWE that believe that Mercedes won’t sign a contract with AEW and that she will be back in WWE as Sasha Banks after having some matches in Japan this year. For now, she’s Mercedes Mone until further notice.
