WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley has explained his only problem with modern wrestling.

Some of the biggest names in the wrestling industry have been less than complimentary about the state of the business today. The Undertaker famously called the modern product and its stars “soft” before the WWE Hall of Famer walked back those comments.

Other stars of yesterday continue to be less than complimentary about the modern product as they try to generate controversy for their own podcast, most of the time.

One star who shies away from such criticism is Mick Foley, but even he has something he doesn’t like about today’s business.

Mick Foley Knows There’s More Than 1 Way To Have A Great Match

Speaking on the Two Man Power Trip Of Wrestling, Mick Foley explained his issue with modern wrestling as he believes today’s wrestlers only know one way to have a good match, which has led to fans believing that as well. Looking back on a live event bout he had with Bret Hart, he wishes current stars could see it to show there’s more than one way to skin a cat:

I had one with Bret Hart. It was unconventional. We worked backwards, if that makes any sense. We didn’t go from start to finish, we went from finish to start. It was unusual, and it was effective. I wish I had a copy of it, just so I could see why it worked, and so that other people might study it and realize there’s more than one way to have a great match. That’s my only pet peeve about today’s product: fans have come to believe there’s only one way to have a great match.

I don’t believe that. It would take a handful of people to defy the prevailing winds and go in a different direction. So, I think there should be a reminder every once in a while that not every great match has to look the same.
