WWE Make Significant Changes After SmackDown

Triple H WWE SmackDown

There was plenty of action for fans in Orlando at the 16th of August edition of SmackDown but it seems WWE had its reasons for major changes after the show went off the air.

New number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championship were crowned on SmackDown as The Street Profits clashed with DIY for a shot at the gold currently held by The Bloodline.

The Bloodline had its hands full with Roman Reigns as he looked to take back the ula fala which would make him the Tribal Chief once again. Reigns managed to place the ula fala around his neck after taking out Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga but Jacob Fatu levelled the former WWE Champion as The Bloodline destroyed Roman Reigns with a wicked triple powerbomb through the announce table.

WWE Add Stars To Matches After SmackDown

Fightful Select has now reported that significant changes were made to plans for SmackDown that wouldn’t have been seen by fans watching at home.

The show was set to have two post-show dark matches for the live crowd featuring Sami Zayn taking on Ludwig Kaiser and Gunther defending his World Heavyweight Title against Jey Uso. However, neither of those matches ended up taking place.

Sami Zayn instead faced off with Santos Escobar with Zayn picking up the win. Gunther’s match with Jey Uso did start but quickly ended up as a no contest when Ludwig Kaiser and Damian Priest got involved. That turned the bout into a tag team contest with Uso and Priest defeating Kaiser and Gunther.

The report noted that the changes happened simply to send the fans home happy as Gunther would have defeated Jey Uso to retain his World Heavyweight Championship had the original plans taken place.
