WWE Library Content Could Be Headed To Major Company
A major corporation could be interested in hosting WWE library content.
If you are a WWE fan who’s also a heavy YouTube user, you’re likely aware that the popular streaming service owned by Google has a lot of content.
Fans of WWE can find content about current shows immediately after they air live on television/streaming platforms, and there’s a vast archive of past content throughout YouTube.
In recent months, WWE has launched YouTube channels featuring past content for the NXT brand and WCW, with the WWE Vault channel proving particularly popular among fans.
Following the news of ESPN airing WWE PLEs starting in 2026, thanks to a 5-year deal worth $1.6 billion, there have been questions about where WWE’s archives could be headed. They were initially on WWE Network before moving to Peacock in 2021, but not all shows are available on Peacock.
With WWE having deals with Netflix for Raw, The CW for NXT, NBC/Peacock for SmackDown, and soon ESPN for the PLE shows in the US alone, it can be confusing for fans. For most international WWE fans, Netflix is the home of Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and PLEs, but the archives on Netflix are missing a lot of content.
WWE Could Bring Even More Content To Google/YouTube In The Future
Fightful Select reports that before WWE Network’s launch in early 2014, WWE was busy acquiring video libraries to load up content for users. However, Fightful reports that live content was “by far the most watched content,” which made it a lot easier to license.
There hasn’t been an announcement about what will happen to the WWE library after the Peacock deal ends, but Fightful mentioned some theories about what could happen. They claim that many people believe WWE will use their relationship with Google/YouTube to house the library content.
Having the WWE library content on a popular platform like YouTube could lead to new fans being formed because of how easy they would have access to the archives. Fightful added that if WWE gets a significant offer for the library, they certainly could take it.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, ESPN’s Chairman Jimmy Pitaro made it clear that they would be interested in WWE’s library content as well.
“Yeah, we’re always interested in content of that quality. I will tell you that we will have the archival rights for the events that we are airing, but yes, in terms of their library, we certainly would be interested if and when those rights are available.”
TKO Group has made several major WWE deals in recent months, and the next step is determining the library content’s future home.
