Why WWE Let Karrion Kross Go Explained – AEW Move Possible
Karrion Kross, along with his wife Scarlett, officially departed from WWE after their contract expired on August 10, 2025.
The split was subtle yet sent shockwaves through the wrestling world. WWE gave Kross a day to accept a new deal that was reportedly unclear and didn’t include Scarlett, and negotiations had stalled. Despite strong merchandise sales and a loyal fanbase, evidenced by his shirts outselling even John Cena’s retirement merchandise, Kross was quietly moved to the alumni list, signaling his free agent status.
After their release, both Kross and Scarlett took to social media, expressing gratitude for their WWE journey and enthusiasm for the next chapter. As of now, neither has announced their next destination, but speculation swirls about future appearances in AEW or other major wrestling promotions.
WWE Wanted To Control Karrion Kross
On The Masters of Wrestling podcast, wrestling veteran Paul Roma gave his insight into why WWE let Karrion Kross go. According to Roma, there was a power dynamic at play between Kross and the company.
Even though Kross’s fan support was clear, WWE’s leadership prioritized control and made it clear that anyone questioning their authority was expendable. Roma also explained that WWE knew Kross might sign with AEW, but still, they chose to release Kross.
I think it’s a big question of control. They [WWE] want to show him that, ‘Hey, listen, [we] don’t care about your popularity. We’re the boss. We’re in control of this. This is what we’re offering you. If you don’t like it, go somewhere else. Well, you know what? Then go to AEW. I’m sure Mr. Khan will be more than happy to pick you up, and I’m sure a lot of the fans be more than happy to go over and start watching AEW.’ (From 4:26 to 4:50)
Karrion Kross unveils new theme song after WWE
