WWE Legend’s Shocking Take On Attending Hulk Hogan Tributes: “Only For Money”
A former WWE star has made a shock admission when it comes to the tributes the company paid to the late Hulk Hogan.
On July 24th, TMZ Sports reported that WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan had passed away aged 71 after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Clearwater, Florida.
WWE paid tribute to perhaps its biggest ever star on the July 25th edition of SmackDown. The opening of the show saw the roster flanked by legends such as Jimmy Hart, Gerald Brisco, Sgt Slaughter, and Hacksaw Jim Duggan take to the stage for a ten-bell salute for Hogan.
WWE again paid tribute to Hulk Hogan on the following edition of Raw with his son Nick Hogan, as well as Eric Bischoff, and representatives from Real American Beer in attendance. Again, a ten bell salute was given to The Hulkster with the roster on the stage before a new tribute video aired.
Tony Atlas Not Asked To Attend Hulk Hogan Tribute
But one former WWE star is glad he wasn’t asked to attend the tributes as he would only have turned up for the payday, not to honour Hogan.
Speaking to the Portland Press Herald, former WWE Tag Team Champion Tony Atlas was asked about the Hogan tributes, and he’s glad he wasn’t asked to attend:
I’m kind of glad that they didn’t invite me because then I would only have been there for the money, not for him.
Tony Atlas is one of a few stars who actually holds a winning record over Hogan during their careers. Atlas defeated Hogan three times in 1981 in WWE, and the following year, Atlas teamed with Andre The Giant to defeat Hulk Hogan and Don Muraco in a tag team match in New Japan Pro Wrestling.
