WWE Legends Eyeing “One Last Hurrah” Before Retirement

Triple H WWE Press Conference

A pair of WWE legends are looking for one final run.

At WrestleMania 33, the Hardy Boyz made their stunning WWE return and immediately won the Raw Tag Team Championship. They went on to win the SmackDown Tag Team Championship in 2019; however, in March 2020, Matt left the company after allowing his contract to expire.

Jeff Hardy remained with WWE until late December 2021, when he was released in somewhat bizarre circumstances. Hardy walked out of a match during a live event by hopping the guardrail and heading into the crowd. There were reports that the star had been acting erratically, and he was ultimately released after refusing to go to rehab.

In March 2022, Jeff signed with AEW, joining his brother in the upstart promotion. However, their run together never really got going after Jeff was arrested for driving under the influence and sought treatment for his well-documented addiction issues.

The tag team legends reunited in TNA in April 2024, and they quickly won the World Tag Team Championship before appearing in NXT thanks to the working relationship between WWE and TNA. This sparked speculation that a “proper” return to the company could be around the corner, and it seems it’s something the pair are hoping for.

Matt And Jeff Hardy Keen On WWE Return

During a new interview with Ariel Helwani, Matt and Jeff confirmed that they’re looking to make a proper return to WWE before being inducted into the Hall of Fame. Matt added that he and Jeff are keen to keep wrestling for as long as they’re physically able.

“Maybe so. I think we do want to do the WWE Hall of Fame. I think we would like maybe one last hurrah with WWE, and that could even be possible while working with TNA too, so we’ll see. It would be nice to still have the most limited schedule we could have, which could optimise how much time we could spend at home with our families and our kids.

Everything is kind of up in the air right now, we both feel good and I think we’re gonna rock and roll as long as we feel like we can do it.”

The pair went on to reiterate that Jeff turned down a Hall of Fame induction in 2021 while Matt was in AEW as it “didn’t feel right.”
