A former WWE World Champion will be appearing for AAA.

Ahead of WrestleMania 41 night one, WWE announced the acquisition of the famous Mexican Promotion AAA. Michael Cole broke the news during the WrestleMania 41 pre-show, shortly after a new Worlds Collide event involving talent from NXT and AAA was announced.

Several AAA figures and WWE wrestlers who have wrestled for the company were on hand for the announcement that sent shockwaves around the industry.

The deal is set to be confirmed in the third quarter of 2025, while there’s a chance the promotion could be renamed NXT Mexico.

Top WWE Star Confirmed For AAA

Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer shared a series of quotes from former AAA owner Dorian Roldan. While speaking at the annual Sports Summit in Mexico City, Roldan confirmed he’ll remain with the company before noting that Rey Mysterio will return to AAA.

Although he didn’t reveal when this appearance would be, should Mysterio wrestle, it will be his first match for the promotion since 2018.

He said Rey Misterio Jr. will return to AAA and that the ex-AAA talent now in WWE are excited and can’t wait to return, meaning Penta and Fenix. He also talked about how AAA will be the gateway for Mexican wrestlers for an eventual WWE career.

Meanwhile, Rey Mysterio is currently out of action after suffering an injury on the eve of WrestleMania. The star had been due to face El Grande Americano at the event, but was forced to withdraw after suffering a groin injury just 24 hours before the show and was replaced by Rey Fenix.

Mysterio has since undergone surgery for a torn adductor, but there’s no word on how long he’ll be out of the ring.
