WWE Legend Shawn Michaels Undergoes Major Surgery, Requires Further Operations

NXT boss Shawn Michaels

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels has recently undergone major surgery, and it seems he needs more operations in the near future.

Shawn Michaels was spotted at the recent AAA Triplemania, where he was in the ring with Triple H during the national anthem at the start of the show. But it seems Michaels has been forced to address his own health with recent surgery.

Speaking on his Kliq This podcast, Kevin Nash revealed that Michaels recently underwent back surgery as a result of the aftermath of his casket match with The Undertaker at the 1998 Royal Rumble:

Shawn (Michaels) just got done — he got an operation… When he f*cked his back up on that casket match, they put some rods and sh*t in his back, and they had to take him out because they were all twisted… Shawn just had that done and I guess — I haven’t had the chance to talk to him, because I haven’t had a chance to talk to my f*cking wife who lives with me.

Nash added that Michaels was immediately in less pain following the surgery, but that he needs a double knee replacement as well:

But, he woke up from surgery and was in less pain, and Shawn needs both his knees replaced on top of that, and who’s to say as long as they’ve been bowed like that, there’s not some hip things.

What Happened In Shawn Michaels Casket Match?

At the 1998 Royal Rumble, Shawn Michaels defended his WWE Championship that he won courtesy of the infamous Montreal Screwjob against The Undertaker in a casket match. During the bout, Michaels landed awkwardly on the casket placed at ringside, causing a severe back injury.

Michaels was pulled from a planned eight-man tag team match at No Way Out of Texas in February of 1998 and replaced by Savio Vega. The Heartbreak Kid managed to get through his WWE Title defence at WrestleMania 14 against Stone Cold Steve Austin before he ended up taking four years away from the ring.
