WWE Legend Refuses To Rule Out One More Match

One of the biggest stars in WWE history could get back in the ring one more time.

When Steve Austin made the slow walk from the ring back up the ramp at WrestleMania 19 he thought his career was over. A run full of serious knee and neck injuries, and living life at a ridiculous pace had finally caught up with him, and he resigned himself to never wrestling again.

However, come WrestleMania 38, he was presented with an opportunity that was too good to turn down — a match with Kevin Owens in the main event of Night One in his home state of Texas. During the chaotic match, Austin rolled back the years and turned in a performance so impressive fans have been calling for him to wrestle again ever since.

With WrestleMania 40 on the horizon, and his famous rival The Rock lacing up his boots again, speculation around Austin has resurfaced.

During a new interview with Steve Raimondi for ESPN, Austin was asked about the possibility of one more match and admitted he’d be foolish to rule it out.

“I said I’d never get in a ring again unless all the stars aligned. For some reason, somehow, they all did. At the age of 57, I headlined the first night of WrestleMania. I never thought I’d do that. If you’d have told me that when I retired in [2003], I’d have said, ‘You’re crazy.’ So I’m not gonna sit here and say no to anything, because you never say never in this crazy business of sports entertainment,”

The WWE legend added that while a match is unlikely, it’s not impossible.

“I love the sports entertainment business more than anything I’ve ever done in my life. You get a dose of it, and you want more. So here I am talking to you a couple years later about doing it again. That’s how addicting it is to me, just to talk about it. I get excited, and I’ll start talking too fast. But it’s not gonna happen. But it could,”

Steve Austin Open To WWE Comeback Opposite CM Punk

During the same interview, Steve Austin hinted that he would be open to wrestling CM Punk. The match has long been known as one of wrestling’s biggest ‘what ifs’ but it could yet become a reality.

Back in November, it was reported that CM Punk was pushing for a match with Steve Austin, and many within WWE were optimistic about a deal coming together.
