WWE Legend Refused To Work With Chris Jericho
One of WWE’s most famous names initially wanted nothing to do with Chris Jericho.
After realising he had already gotten as far as he was going to go in WCW, Chris Jericho jumped to WWE in August 1999. At 28, his best years were yet to come, and the move to many was further proof that WCW wasn’t going to be taking the fight to WWE any time soon.
Jericho made his debut in a memorable promo battle against The Rock, before following that up by interrupting The Undertaker on SmackDown. Not only did he cut The Deadman off, but he also proceeded to tell the world how boring he was.
Speaking on a recent episode of his Talk Is Jericho podcast, Jericho revealed he got “so much heat” for taking aim at ‘Taker. He also revealed that his original target was then-World Champion Stone Cold Steve Austin. However, Austin had no intention of getting involved.
I did a promo on Undertaker on Tuesday. Originally, it was supposed to be a promo on Austin, but I think Steve said, ‘Screw that. I’m not doing it.’ My idea at the time was I was just going to bury all the top stars and tell them how boring they are. I told Undertaker how boring he was after he just delivered a ten-minute super boring promo. I got so much heat for that.
Chris Jericho Has No Plans To Retire
Now firmly at the other end of his career, Chris Jericho has dismissed talk of retirement.
During a recent interview, Jericho hit back at the idea he could follow the likes of Sting, John Cena, and Bryan Danielson and walk away from life in the ring. The veteran said that while he’s enjoying performing and feeling like he can contribute, he sees no reason to retire.
He added that when he retires he won’t have a retirement tour or retirement match, he’ll simply call it a day.
