Why WWE Legend Thinks John Cena Doesn’t Have “It Factor”
A WWE Hall of Famer thinks John Cena has always missed a special something.
In 2025, John Cena will bring the curtain down on a career that has seen him become one of the biggest wrestling stars in history. Cena has won every major prize WWE has to offer and stands on the brink of winning a record-breaking 17th World Championship at WrestleMania.
At Elimination Chamber, Cena won the match of the same name to earn a shot at Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Title. Then, in a move that still seems unbelievable, he turned heel to join forces with The Rock via an attack on Rhodes.
However, for some, there’ still something missing.
Jake Roberts Shares Opinion On John Cena
On The Snake Pit with Jake Roberts, the WWE Hall of Famer reflected on Elimination Chamber and Cena’s once-unthinkable heel turn. Roberts explained that he supported the decision to turn Cena heel, as Rhodes is now clearly the top babyface in the company.
“Yeah, absolutely. Sure, why not? It’s time for a couple of reasons. Number one, Cody’s your top babyface now. So you gotta get those other guys out of there, so he’s the only one. And to turn him heel, he’ll he’s gonna wind up letting Cody over which is what they want.”
However, he added that he personally never felt Cena had the “It factor” that helps legends stand out from the rest.
“I don’t think he did. I don’t feel it, man. [It’s] nothing personal, but I just always struggle with him.”
When asked what he thought Cena was missing, Roberts was unable to pin down something tangible, explaining that he felt he never “had that magic in him.”
“Not really [anything specific]. Just doesn’t have that magic in him, man. You know, his interviews are okay and his work is was good, very good. But he didn’t have that ‘oomph.’ He had to work really hard.”
Someone else unimpressed by the veteran, albeit for very different reasons, is Michelle Runnels. During a recent interview, “Mama Rhodes” said John Cena should be ashamed of himself for turning his back on fans and attacking her son.
It’s been announced that both Cena and Rhodes will feature on the March 17 edition of Raw.
