WWE Legend Doubts Jerry Lawler Will Ever Wrestle Again
Jerry “The King” Lawler is unlikely to wrestle following a stroke, says this WWE legend.
Commentary and wrestling legend Lerry “The King Lawler is most famously known for his contributions in the ring as a great heel and worker, and for his commentary in the WWE from the 90s to the 2010s with famed partner the Voice Of Wrestling Jim Ross(JR).
In wrestling, he was one of Memphis, Tennessee’s most decorated wrestlers, winning 30-plus world championships across promotions in the 70s and 80s. He was known for feuds with the likes of famous comedian/wrestler Andy Kaufman, where he toed the line between reality and fiction, famously attacking Kaufman on the David Letterman show.
He was one of the greatest heels to ever do it, and that carried forward into his glory years in commentary, where he would support the heel characters while his partner JR would support the babyfaces. Their effortless chemistry with Lawler’s humorous, witty, and snide remarks and Ross’s play-by-play commentary, and dramatic punctuations of big moments made for unskippable viewing.
Lawler suffered a second stroke in 2023 after already suffering one in 2018. His broadcast contract with WWE ended in 2024.
WWE Legend Jim Ross Says Lawler Won’t Wrestle Again Following The Stroke
On a recent episode of his podcast, Grilling JR, Jim Ross discussed Lawler’s health and said that he is still recovering from a stroke, and recently stated he wants to have one more match.
JR said that he hoped his longtime friend wouldn’t do it, but would support his decision
Well, after being around him all weekend and loving him like I do, I hope not. I don’t see how he could do it. He’s like me, he doesn’t get around real quick and his balance is suspect. He loves the business so much. It’s his life, Connie. It’s his f**king life. And he’s having a hard time separating from his long, 50-plus-year established life to not.
Hey, if he wants to have another match, and he can have another match, and if he had a match, I’d certainly support it. But I don’t see it happening.
