WWE Legend Details Emotional Backstage Moment With The Rock
Over the years, The Rock has featured in various high-profile WWE storylines.
Every time The Brahma Bull took to the squared circle in his wrestling gear, the fans expected him to win. But just as the story demanded, he put over a few, eating a tough-to-digest loss.
One such wrestler was Kurt Angle.
The 1996 Olympic gold medallist recently appeared on The Ariel Helwani Show, where he recalled a backstage interaction in WWE with The Rock, resulting in him lunging at the People’s Champ for a hug.
He had learnt that he was getting put over.
I was wrestling main eventers, which was putting me up there with them, but I wasn’t winning. All of a sudden, out of nowhere, Vince McMahon decides to make me champion against The Rock.
When I showed up at the arena, The Rock pulled me aside and said, ‘Listen, you’re going over tonight, brother. This is your chance.’ I hugged him. I’m like, ‘Dwayne, thank you so much, man. I have so much respect for you and you’re one of the greatest of all time, and to be able to take the title from you is going to be an honor.
Kurt Angle Is One Of The Rock’s Favorite Wrestlers In WWE
The Rock recently heaped praise on his former WWE peer Kurt Angle, calling him someone he loved wrestling with.
Both wrestlers shone individually during the Attitude Era, winning championships and honors to push their status high up the tier.
During a recent appearance on Sports Illustrated, The Most Electrifying Man in Sports Entertainment called Angle an insane athlete.
I loved wrestling guys who are just insane athletes who had a pedigree at other things. And that was always Kurt Angle – insane athlete, as you know, pedigree in wrestling, gold medal at the Olympics – wins the gold medal with a broken neck, it’s just wild.
