WWE Legend Claims Vince McMahon Was Jealous Of Him

Jim Ross

This WWE Legend doesn’t understand Vince McMahon’s “animosity” towards him

Wrestling fans around the world, across decades, can immediately recognise one wrestling commentator’s voice, and that is the voice of “Good Ol’ JR”, Jim Ross.

JR’s commentary alongside Jerry “The King” Lawler helped shape the landscape of wrestling in the 90s with his razor-sharp precision in calling matches, complete with wrestling move names combined with high-intensity crescendos in spots involving high-impact moves or drama, making unforgettable memories for fans in the process.

His vocal presence is known to have significantly improved the experience of millions of viewers watching wrestling, and he remained a key figure until he decided not to renew his WWE contract in 2019 following his final stint in the Stamford-based promotion from 2017 to 2019. JR claimed that it was because WWE wasn’t using him in too many matches anymore.

But despite all the love he has received from fans and peers, he never seemed to get any love or respect from his then-boss, ex-WWE CEO Vince McMahon, who was always on the cusp of firing Ross from his job.

WWE Legend Jim Ross Reveals Reason Behind Vince McMahon’s Animosity Towards Him

While speaking on the Show Grilling JR with Jim Ross host Conrad Thompson asks JR about Vince McMahon. He brings up former WWE announcer Todd Grisham’s recent appearance on the Chris Van Vliet podcast where Grisham revealed that he was going to be offered the job as the main commentator on raw in place of JR but it didn’t transpire as JR was too big of a deal in the wrestling world.

Grisham Still went on to say that McMahon hated Ross for whatever reason and tried firing him 10 times.

JR responded by saying that he never really understood McMahon’s animosity towards him and attributed it to probably being jealousy as McMahon could’t do play by play commentary as well as JR.

I never have understood Vince’s intense animosity. I think he was jealous. It was, it was never going to be the, he was, he was never the play-by-play guy that I was.

JR went on to say that Vince didn’t give him any credit for the Attitude Era

he didn’t want to give me any credit for helping build the Attitude Era into what it was. I’m not the only person responsible for that, for God’s sakes. I’m not trying to say that.”

JR went on to clarify that he never had any animosity towards the former wrestling tycoon. He went on to say that the pay he got made him happy despite all the grief from his boss.

As much grief as he gave me, I could always look at my bank account and get happy. I never had the animosity toward Vince that he had toward me and I never got it,

The Voice Of Wrestling Jim Ross can be heard calling two upcoming NWA title matches.
