WWE Legend Launches Blistering Attack On Goldberg’s Critics
A WWE Hall of Famer has come to the defence of Goldberg.
At Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, Goldberg will step into the ring for the 383rd and final time. In Atlanta, Georgia, the veteran will square off against Gunther as he attempts to win one last World Championship.
The issues between the pair began back at Bad Blood and have only grown more intense in the months since.
However, the announcement of the match was met with a decidedly mixed reaction from fans, with some making it clear they’ve got little interest in seeing the 58-year-old get back in the ring. A sentiment that has been echoed by others across the industry.
But that doesn’t mean that Goldberg is without his supporters.
Booker T Defends Goldberg
Speaking on his Hall of Fame podcast, Booker T said that anyone offered a high-profile retirement match for the World Championship would have accepted it. He then told anyone complaining to “shut the hell up.”
“I want to reach out to all the the guys of that era of Goldberg, okay, and the guys of that era that are complaining about Goldberg. Why does Goldberg get the shot? Why is he in this match?… The reason why he’s doing it, because it’s the same thing your ass would have did if WWE called you to be in a final match with Gunther in a prime time spot. That’s why.
So anybody out there complaining can just shut the hell up. Seriously. Because I know if they would have called me, I would have did it. And I know just about anybody that’s in that position, that’s that’s able to actually walk to that ring, they would have did it too.”
Booker went on to say that any of the younger wrestlers complaining would be lucky to have a career on the same level as the WCW legend.
“To the young guys who may have a problem with it, you better hope and wish and pray that you’re of the caliber of a Goldberg one day toward a company feel that you have that much to bring to the table still at that age, to bring you back to give to the fans one more time. You better hope and pray that you’re in that position just one day. And trust me, guys, time flies.”
Elsewhere at the TV special, Drew McIntyre will face Randy Orton, while LA Knight is set to take on Seth Rollins.
