WWE Legend Addresses Potential In-Ring Return After 18 Years
A prominent star featured during the Attitude Era discussed a potential in-ring return.
Steve Blackman was a mid-carder who won the Hardcore Championship six times.
“The Lethal Weapon” is renowned for various feuds, including one with Ken Shamrock from 1998 to 1999 and with Shane McMahon in 2000.
His greatest rivalry was against McMahon, which peaked at the 2000 SummerSlam, where they fought for the Hardcore title.
The match saw Blackman knock Shane off a 20-foot entrance structure with a kendo stick and follow it up with an elbow drop for the win.
He recently appeared on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, where he discussed various topics, including his Hardcore title run.
Steve Blackman has made sporadic appearances in the Stamford-based company, with his last match occurring on the 15th Anniversary edition of WWE RAW on December 10, 2007.
When asked about a potential return to the company, he said:
I haven’t even really discussed anything with anyone. Don’t get me wrong. I mean, there’s times where I thought, oh man, it’d be fun to go back there and do a hardcore match or something like that, and just flow with it, and just to do it again. You know, it’s been 20 years, but I don’t really bring it up. I haven’t talked to anybody about it.
Steve Blackman Discusses Near-Death Experience Before WWE
Blackman’s wrestling journey began in 1986.
He wrestled in Japan and Canada, then returned to the United States to prepare for WWE. Blackman also recalls promising someone about wrestling in Africa.
During his journey to honor his commitment, he suffered a near-death experience.
They said I probably had dysentery and malaria. It was so bad. When I landed in Africa on Thursday, I weighed 267; the next Thursday, when I left the hospital… I weighed 232. I was 35 pounds lighter in six days.
I thought I was gonna die from just complete dehydration, which is pretty much where you die from with dysentery.
The ordeal lasted for a few years with him. After he regained full health, Blackman visited Vince McMahon, who gave him another opportunity, which led to his WWE debut in 1997.
