WWE King Of The Ring 2024 Crowned
It might have been a case of WWE’s past vs. the future as Gunther and Randy Orton went one-on-one for the first time ever for the King of the Ring crown.
Gunther has already smashed records during his time in WWE and as well as being the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion of all time, The Ring General was also looking to join the list of stars to hold the King of the Ring title.
Gunther’s King of the Ring journey began with a brutal match against his old rival Sheamus. After dispatching the Irish star, Gunther faced another former WWE Champion Kofi Kingston before defeating Jey Uso to move on to the final in Saudi Arabia.
On the SmackDown side of the bracket, it was Randy Orton who saw off AJ Styles, Carmelo Hayes, and Tama Tonga to move into the final as he looked to join Edge as the only WWE star to win the Grand Slam as well as Money In The Bank, the Royal Rumble, and the King of the Ring.
WWE upped the stakes for the King & Queen of the Ring tournaments substantially before the finals took place meaning the winner now will challenge for their brand’s World Title at SummerSlam.
Gunther/Randy Orton Crowned WWE King of the Ring
At King & Queen of the Ring in Saudi Arabia, it was Gunther who picked up the win meaning they have now become King of the Ring for the first time in their career.
After Orton hit an RKO, Gunther punched Orton’s injured left knee and did a crucifix pin to get the pinfall win.
That also sets up a huge title match for SummerSlam in Cleveland as Gunther will now face the World Heavyweight Champion, no matter who holds the gold come August 3rd.
After being handed the King of the Ring crown by Triple H, Gunther declared he was going to be the next World Heavyweight Champion.
