Why WWE Chose Kevin Owens As Stone Cold’s Final Opponent Revealed
Kevin Owens was Stone Cold Steve Austin’s last opponent in WWE.
The Texas Rattlesnake wrestled his last match at WrestleMania 38 on Night 1 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where he faced and defeated The Prizefighter in a No Holds Barred match.
Stone Cold recently sat down for an interview with Chris Van Vliet on his Insight podcast, where he was asked why he and WWE chose Kevin Owens as his opponent for his last match.
Austin replied that it was because Owens is one of the safest WWE wrestlers to work with inside the ring.
“It was in Dallas, Texas. Vince flew down here, and we had a conversation, and I thought about it for a minute. I love Kevin Owens, and I think, from a safety standpoint, they picked Kevin. And when they threw out just a couple of names, Kevin was the guy.”
Stone Cold Steve Austin Says Kevin Owens Is A Future Hall Of Famer
Chris asked if Kevin Owens’ use of his iconic stunner in his matches influenced the decision to choose him as an opponent. Stone Cold replied, saying that the decision was based purely on his talent.
Austin also added that KO is for sure a future Hall of Famer.
“No, they just hand-picked Kevin because they know how good he is, and he cuts a good promo. I remember meeting Kevin 100 years ago in the airport, him and Sami Zayn, it’s a well-known story.
But anyway, I gave him some advice about learning how to promo and talk instead of taking all those bumps. And you know, he’s turned it up. Kevin Owens will end up in the Hall of Fame. So, I mean, why not pick Kevin Owens for Stone Cold Steve Austin’s opponent?”
