Why WWE Icon Hulk Hogan Would Not Be World Champion Today

Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan ruled wrestling in the eighties and the nineties but one announcer doesn’t think the WWE Hall of Famer would have been on top in the modern world.

WWE fans made clear Hulk Hogan wasn’t welcome in the modern wrestling world when they showered him with boos when he appeared on the Raw debut on Netflix. Hogan has been a controversial figure for years mainly due to his extremely racist comments that were made public which he has never really apologised for.

Hulk Hogan claimed his reception was down to his politics as he had very publicly sucked up to Donald Trump ahead of the 2024 US Presidential election.

But what if Hulk Hogan was hitting his peak in the modern era, would he still be as dominant as he was when he captured the WWE and WCW Championships a total of 12 times? Former WCW announcer Tony Schiavone doesn’t think so.

Hulk Hogan Would Not Be World Champion Today

Speaking on What Happened When AEW announcer Tony Schiavone and co-host Conrad Thompson discussed some wrestling not ageing well. Schiavone then noted that Hulk Hogan was a champion for his time but if he had been around in the current wrestling landscape, he wouldn’t be a world champion:

Well, yeah. ‘80s music wouldn’t work today. Hulk was a champion, of course, during what I think, in my life, when I remember great times, to me, the ‘80s were the greatest decade of all time, and one of the things you remember during the ‘80s is Hulkamania. So yeah, Hulk wouldn’t be a world champion today.
