WWE History Made At Backlash France
All eyes were on Lyon, France for Backlash and WWE did not disappoint with an acclaimed show that saw history made.
Backlash France saw a WWE star return after a decade away from the company to join The Bloodline and solidify Solo Sikoa’s place as Tribal Chief.
The show also saw Jey Uso fail to dethrone Damian Priest for the World Heavyweight Championship and Jade Cargill claim her first gold in WWE as she and Bianca Belair defeated The Kabuki Warriors for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship.
Bayley retained her WWE Women’s Championship against Tiffany Stratton and Naomi and it was a clean sweep for the singles champions in action as Cody Rhodes defeated AJ Styles in the main event to remain WWE Champion.
WWE History Made In Backlash Main Event
It was that main event that saw history made as Jessika Carr became the first woman in company history to referee a WWE Championship PLE main event.
Cody Rhodes noted the occasion on social media before the event, writing:
Wanted to mention this after the contract signing, (and forgive me if I’m wrong but I don’t think I am…) It’ll also be the VERY FIRST PLE Main Event for The Undisputed @WWE Title officiated by a woman @WWELadyRefJess
Triple H also paid tribute to the official’s achievement while sharing a photo of the pair of them:
Jessika Carr has been smashing through glass ceilings since she joined @WWE, and last night was no different. At #WWEBacklash France, @WWELadyRefJess became the first female official to ever referee a #WWETitle PLE main event match.
