WWE Has An Option To Buy TNA

Triple H WWE

WWE has taken steps to ensure it can purchase TNA.

On August 14, it was reported that TNA Impact could move to Wednesday nights to go head-to-head with AEW Dynamite. With media rights negotiations well underway, it was claimed that Impact could move to a “WWE-associated network” before making the switch.

This network could be the CW Network, the current home of NXT. The network is believed to have a genuine interest in working with TNA.

There’s a growing feeling that WWE is looking to ensure that TNA becomes the number two promotion in North America. This ties in with the company’s attempts throughout 2025 to counter-program AEW at every opportunity.

As part of this strategy, an as-yet-unnannounced Premium Live Event headlined by John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar could go head-to-head with All Out. There has even been talk of John Cena’s retirement match being moved from mid-December to counter AEW Worlds End.

As noted in the report, the company has a degree of influence over TNA, despite not owning it. However, there is potential for that to change.

WWE’s Impact On TNA Laid Bare

According to a new report in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a clause in the agreement between WWE and TNA that enables the sports entertainment giant to purchase the company.

The clause is said to be active for a “certain length of time,” but the exact details are unknown. The company has offered similar deals to European promotions it’s worked with in the past.

Furthermore, WWE has the “right of first refusal” to match any offers for the company.

The report comes after former UFC boss Lorenzo Fertitta was surprisingly linked with a bid to purchase the company. Tony Khan has also turned down the opportunity to buy TNA on two separate occasions.
