WWE Hall Of Famer Won’t Rule Out Return To The Company
A WWE Hall of Famer won’t rule out a return to the company despite last competing for them over a decade ago.
You have to go all the way back to Main Event in August 2014 to find the last time that Rob Van Dam competed in a WWE ring. For context, that was seven months before AJ Lee had her last match before leaving the company, and current WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton was just 15 years old.
However, RVD has kept active in his years after leaving WWE for the second time, and has even recorded a handful of matches in AEW. But could a return to the sports entertainment giant really be on the cards for the 54-year-old?
Rob Van Dam Keeping WWE Option Open
Speaking to TMZ Sports, Rob Van Dam was asked about a possible return to WWE and says he won’t rule it out despite a serious heel injury and the fact that he no longer understands what wrestling is becoming:
Sure, it’s possible [return to WWE]. I think anything’s possible, and I’m not ruling anything out. Personally, as far as whether I want to continue or not after my heels are completely 100% [recovered], I change my mind every few days about it. You know, I don’t really get the product that it’s becoming.
The former WWE Champion continued, noting what he feels has changed about the business over the years and why it might not be a business for him anymore:
Here’s one thing, too — I feel like the fans who grew up watching my era thought they knew how it worked in a certain way, and now they’re the ones running it. So, they’ve changed it to how they think it was run. And now we’ve got the next fans, who have been watching them, coming up and getting ready to run things. It’s changing so much into something that feels far away from the competitive side, and maybe that’s for the best.
Maybe they’re fixing things about the business. But for me personally, I feel like sometimes I could go, feel great, and show people that I can still do what I used to do. Hopefully, it’ll motivate or inspire some people, maybe. And then at other times, I feel like maybe I’d rather just be attached to old-school wrestling and remembered for that.
