Despite Heavy Speculation WWE Hall Of Famer Won’t Be Making AEW Switch
One WWE veteran won’t be heading to AEW.
On July 12, Goldberg wrestled his final match at Saturday Night’s Main Event against Gunther in Atlanta, Georgia. Or did he?
In the days after the match, the WWE Hall of Famer was critical of the company’s handling of his retirement run and refused to promise that he’d never wrestle again. This sparked comments online that Goldberg could find his way to AEW for a one-off goodbye.
That speculation only increased when MJF said he’d be open to wrestling the veteran, even if it was only to embarrass him on the way out.
AEW Not Interested In WWE Hall Of Famer Goldberg
However, despite the wild level of speculation that followed the comments from Goldberg himself and MJF, it seems there’s little appetite for a deal within AEW.
According to a new report from Wrestle Votes, there’s no “direct connection” between the two sides. Furthermore, there’s a belief that the veteran remains under contract with WWE.
“After speaking with sources in AEW, we’re told there doesn’t appear to be any direct connection between the company and Goldberg at this time, one source noted it would genuinely surprise them if AEW moved in that direction for a match, especially considering its good grace standing with the fans after the successful all in pay per view last weekend.
It is also believed that Goldberg is still under contract with the WWE, which would prevent any communication from happening in the first place at this time. So TC, I’ll ask you this yesterday on Busted Open, MJF was on, and he really kind of dug into, or might have been Tuesday, excuse me, dug into a match with Goldberg, where we have learned since that from sources, it doesn’t appear that Goldberg and AEW are going to be matched up at any point anytime soon.”
Meanwhile, Goldberg has confirmed that he suffered a broken hand during his match with Gunther. Aside from that, he reported that he’s in good health and enjoyed the match with the World Heavyweight Championship.
