WWE Hall Of Famer Vows To Fight “Expiration Date” After Tough Loss
One WWE Hall of Famer says they are fighting back against the idea of an “expiration date” on their career.
Wrestling fans were spoilt for choice over a weekend that saw 56-year-old Dustin Rhodes win his first AEW title, 58-year-old Goldberg wrestle the final match of his iconic career, and 49-year-old Trish Stratus challenge for the WWE Women’s Championship at Evolution 2.
While Rhodes was successful in his title quest, Goldberg was put to sleep by World Heavyweight Champion Gunther as the curtain came down on his career. WWE Women’s Champion Tiffany Stratton also proved the company now runs on Tiffy Time as she managed to defeat Trish Stratus.
But that doesn’t mean Stratus is thinking about hanging up her boots once and for all.
Trish Stratus Dipping Into WWE Skyscraper
At the post-Evolution press conference, Trish Stratus explained that she had considered that her match with Stratton could be her last, but said she wants to be the one who decides when enough is enough:
I have that thought like, ‘Is this the last time? It could be.’ The WWE Universe has been so wondeful to me and so supportive. I just feel so blessed to dip my toes into the current landscape. It’s been 20 years. Is it 2005? Like, what the heck.
It’s never lost on me how lucky I am to know we built; me, Ivory, Jackie, the girls you saw in the audience. Lita, of course, Mickie. We built the foundation that they built a skyscraper on. Now that I get to comeback and dip into that skyscraper, I feel blessed.
I always have the worry, ‘I have to make sure I can hang with these girls.’ I watch the girls and I’m like [stammering]. I want to knock down the preconceived notions about maybe there is no expiration date until you say it is. It’s not over until you say it’s over.
