WWE Hall Of Famer Rey Mysterio Recalls When He Was Swung Like A Baseball Bat

In a recent interview with Chris Van Vliet, WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio opened up about a harrowing incident from his career when The Big Show – Paul Wight swung him into the ring post while he was strapped to a stretcher, resulting in a “crazy moment” that left a lasting impact.

The incident occurred after The Big Show had defeated Rey Mysterio in a match at the WWE Backlash PPV in 2003, which culminated with a devastating chokeslam that necessitated Rey’s removal from the ring on a stretcher. Subsequently, Big Show hoisted the stretcher with Rey still strapped to it and swung it into the ring post, creating a visually stunning yet perilous moment.

Reflecting on the incident, Rey Mysterio recalled the lead-up to the stunt and the unforeseen consequences that followed.

I remember going over that and Big Show and the production team were like ‘is that possible?’ Yeah it’s definitely possible, we just never thought what would happen after he swung, there was no way he would be able to swing and hold on as if it was a bat. No, the weight as soon as that hit, it went down, I went down with my arms strapped to my side head first. Crazy moment, really crazy.

Rey Mysterio and The Big Show had known each other since their time in WCW in 1996, and Rey revealed that he was taken to the hospital as a precaution following the incident. Expressing his concern for Rey’s well-being, The Big Show accompanied him to the hospital, demonstrating a deep sense of remorse and empathy for his fellow wrestler.

I remember Big Show going to the hospital because they took me straight there. Big Show was outside the room I was in and he wanted to come in the room and check on me. He was tearing up, he said ‘Rey, I’m sorry are you ok?’ The nurse left and obviously back then I had a bit of an issue with painkillers, so it was just us and I said ‘OK Big Show, just try and get something for my pain’.
