WWE Hall Of Famer Responds To Accusations That They Politicked Their Way To World Title

WWE Hall of Famer Booker T addressed longstanding allegations of backstage politicking during his time in WCW, specifically in relation to his rise to becoming World Champion.

On an episode of his “Hall of Fame” show, WWE NXT announcer Booker T firmly denied these claims, emphasising his limited influence and the lack of a conducive environment for such manoeuvring within WCW.

I don’t think I was in a position in WCW to politic or do any politicking at all.

Booker T stated, highlighting his perceived lack of clout within the company. He stressed that his success was solely based on his in-ring performance, without any significant backstage influence.

I was going to be there due to how good I performed in the ring and that was pretty much it. I didn’t have any friends, we didn’t have any, my brother and I, we didn’t have any cliques. There was no buddy system for us, so I don’t know how did I get in the politicking realm.

Booker also touched on his relationship with Rick Steiner, expressing his belief that they had a strong rapport, despite the cautious approach to labelling individuals as true friends in the wrestling industry.

I always thought I was pretty tight with Rick Steiner.

He shared, noting the rarity of genuine friendships in the business. Booker elaborated on the complexities of these relationships, explaining why he rarely considers fellow wrestlers as friends.

That’s one of the reasons why I really never call guys friends. If you find a friend that’s a rarity, it’s been a lot of guys that I’ve been associated with. We’ve been co-workers, we’ve been road buddies. But as far as friends, I don’t have a whole lot of friends in this business due to that right there.

Why Did WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T Win The WCW Title Due To A Lawsuit?

Dave Meltzer spoke about how WWE Hall of Famer Booker T won his first WCW World Title due to a lawsuit brought against the company for racist remarks that certain executives were accused of and that WCW thought it would be a good idea to put the world title on a black wrestler at that time.
