WWE Hall Of Famer Recalls How They Beat Jerry Lawler In Their First Ever Match

WWE Hall of Famer The Godfather shared a surprising story about his early days in the wrestling business, revealing that his path to the ring was anything but conventional.

Speaking on his podcast, “Poddin’ Ain’t Easy,” The Godfather opened up about how his focus during his early career wasn’t exactly on wrestling.

I’m gonna be completely honest, I’ve always been really good at picking up women because I’ve always worked in strip clubs.

The Godfather admitted. He explained that his time was largely spent at strip clubs rather than in the wrestling school where he was supposed to be training.

When I went to wrestling school, all I’m doing is hanging out all night in strip clubs. I’m hooking up with chicks and stuff. I get back to my apartment at like 1:00 in the afternoon. I sleep all day.

The Godfather confessed that his attendance at wrestling school was almost non-existent.

Wrestling school, if I was there three or four months, I might have gone to wrestling school three, four times, maybe. The rest of the time, I swear to you I’m hanging in strip clubs.

He said, reflecting on his unconventional start in the industry. Despite his lack of formal training, The Godfather found himself thrust into the ring for his debut match against a wrestling legend and fellow WWE Hall of Famer, Jerry Lawler.

My very first match ever, not knowing anything about wrestling, not one thing about wrestling, I thought it was a half-ass shoot. I wrestled Jerry [Lawler] in Memphis, Tennessee on a Monday night, which was big back then. I beat him in the middle, one, two, three.
