One WWE Hall of Famer has shocked everyone by coming out of retirement with no warning.

2025 has been the year of retirements in many ways across the wrestling world. John Cena will hang up his jorts for the final time at Saturday Night’s Main Event on December 13th. Cena will clash with Gunther, Jey Uso, Solo Sikoa, or LA Knight in his last bout, with those four men still competing to have the honour of being Cena’s final opponent.

Ahead of that bout, John Cena lost his Intercontinental Title back to Dominik Mysterio at Survivor Series after he was screwed out of the gold by a returning Liv Morgan.

In New Japan Pro Wrestling, the spectre of Hiroshi Tanahashi’s retirement has hung heavy over the company. Tanahashi will have his final bout on January 4th 2026, at Wrestle Kingdom when he clashes with AEW’s Kazuchika Okada. Since the announcement of Okada as Tanahashi’s opponent, the event has sold out the Tokyo Dome for the first time in several years.

Now, one star has flipped the script and made their way back into the ring five years after they hung up their boots and mask.

WWE Hall Of Famer Jushin Thunder Liger Gets Back In The Ring

At WrestleCade, former AEW star Joey Janela issued an open challenge for a bout, and that challenge was shockingly answered by NJPW legend and WWE Hall of Famer, Jushin Thunder Liger.

Liger competed in the final match of his career at Wrestle Kingdom in 2020 when he teamed with Naoki Sano in a tag team loss to Hiromu Takahashi and Ryu Lee – now best known as WWE’s Dragon Lee.
