Why WWE Hall Of Famer Wanted John Cena To Win Royal Rumble

John Cena

WWE Hall Of Famer Ric Flair wanted John Cena to win the 2025 Royal Rumble match.

The two legendary Superstars are tied on 16 World Championship wins apiece as Cena embarks upon his final year in the squared circle having announced his intention to retire from active competition at the end of 2025.

Cena entered the 2025 Royal Rumble as an odds-on favourite with most expecting him to face Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42 in Las Vegas. It wasn’t to be for the 47 year-old, however, who finished the match in 2nd place having been the final man to be eliminated by winner Jey Uso.

During a recent appearance on ‘Gabby AF‘, Flair revealed that he wanted Cena to win the match, giving a humorous reason for wanting the West Newbury, Massachusetts man to claim glory at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on 1st February:

“I was really pulling for John because they would have been talking about me on TV for the next three months!”

Despite his disappointment at Cena not winning the Royal Rumble, Flair also took time to praise Jey Uso and brother Jimmy for their athleticism:

“Jey’s great. The Usos are phenomenal performers, individually and as a team. They’re big kids and people don’t realize it. They’re 230, 240 [pounds]; they’re not little guys. They can do all the stuff Rey Mysterio can do.”

John Cena Targeted By Current WWE Champion

Reigning World Heavyweight Champion Gunther wants to face John Cena before the legendary Superstar hangs up his boots.

The villainous star recently shared his awareness that Cena was keen to claim gold before ending his in-ring career and callously declared that he wanted to be the man to crush the retiring veterans dreams.
