WWE Hall Of Famer Thinks John Cena Could Retire As A Heel

John Cena heel promo on WWE Raw

Could John Cena really skip a babyface goodbye?

2025 will be John Cena’s last as a professional wrestler, but his recent actions have blown his retirement run wide open.

Heading into the year, the belief was that Cena would attempt to win a record 17th World Championship and enjoy some nostalgic interactions and matches while elevating the next generation before saying goodbye.

However, his stunning heel turn at Elimination Chamber has kicked those theories to the curb, leaving a whole new range of possibilities in their place.

Fans were forced to wait for an explanation for the turn, but it finally came on the March 17 episode of Raw. During the segment in Brussels, Belgium, John Cena was heavily booed as a packed house vented their anger. In response, Cena put the blame for his heelish antics on the fans, claiming they had treated him badly for years.

But while many expect Cena to eventually return to his babyface character before he finally signs off, one former World Champion has a different idea.

Kevin Nash Has Interesting Idea For John Cena

During the most recent episode of his Kilq This podcast, Kevin Nash proposed that Cena could end his career as a heel. The former WWE, WCW, and TNA star said nothing can take away Cena’s legacy, so it would be a “hell of a way to go.”

“The thing about the Cena situation is, I read something today on a comment somewhere, was you know the Cena run has an expiration date. That changes everything.

The one person said, ‘Wouldn’t it be Shakespearean if Cena rode off as a heel and basically the story was that he’s been that this whole time and you dumb f*cks bought it for 20 years, that he was a good guy?’

I said, there’s a hell of a way to go. You’re never gonna take away from his legacy. You’re never going to take away from the fact that he’s done more Make-a-Wishes than probably the entire rest of the athletes on the planet.”

When asked whether Triple H owes Cena a babyface retirement and sendoff, Nash suggested it will come down to what the 16-time World Champion wants.

“If he wants it. When John comes back, if I’m in charge and John comes to me and he says, ‘I want to do a retirement thing,’ I don’t know if it was pitched, if Paul said, ‘Hey, what do you think about a heel turn before you go out the back door,’ and John says, ‘Yeah, as long as we rectify it.’

When it comes down to it, it can always be a situation where it’s that last night, and something’s going down, and it’s the old Popeye. ‘It’s all I can stand because I stand no more,’ and he comes back to his senses.

But people are a lot smarter than they used to be when it comes to wrestling. They’re gonna want this tied up in a bow. If you turn him and he’s been effective…”

During the same conversation, Kevin Nash said Randy Orton could join John Cena and The Rock to completely take over WWE.
