WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross Praises Chavo Guerrero Sr.'s Wrestling Artistry

In a recent episode of his podcast “Grilling JR,” WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross shared his profound admiration for wrestling veteran Chavo Guerrero Sr. The legendary announcer’s comments came during a discussion about the 2004 Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, highlighting a significant moment in Guerrero Sr.’s illustrious career.

The 2004 Royal Rumble featured match between uncle and nephew – Eddie Guerrero and Chavo Guerrero, with Chavo Guerrero Sr. in his son’s corner. The elder Chavo’s performance was so impressive that it led to a short but memorable run with WWE in the months that followed.

Ross, reflected on his first encounters with Chavo Sr. two decades earlier in Mid-South Wrestling.

I loved the Chavo Classic moniker, his handle. I worked with Chavo in Mid-South and he was the first guy I ever saw do a moonsault. It was a piece of art, a thing of beauty no doubt.

Chavo Guerrero Sr.’s wrestling pedigree is well-known in the industry. Coming from the famous Guerrero wrestling family, he had been around the business for decades. JR also praised Guerrero’s sharp mind for the business.

He had been around the business forever, from a famous family. And even at his age as Chavo Sr. he was very talented. He was headstrong, he could be hard-headed but he was not a dumbass. He was fair, and the things he was saying made sense, he could have been a booker-type guy.

The WWE’s decision to bring Guerrero Sr. back for a run in 2004 proved beneficial for both parties.

I’m glad we got a little run out of him, it was good for him to make a few paydays. It got him back on a national stage and had to help with his independent bookings and things of that nature.

During his brief stint with WWE, Chavo Sr. even captured the Cruiserweight Championship in May 2004, adding another accolade to his already impressive career. This championship win showcased that even in the latter stages of his career, Guerrero Sr. could still entertain audiences worldwide.

However, Guerrero Sr.’s run with the company was short-lived, as he was released just a month after his championship victory. Despite the brevity of his WWE return, it left a lasting impression on both fans and industry insiders like Jim Ross.

Jim Ross Supports Vince McMahon’s Shock Message To WWE Stars

Also in the same episode of his podcast, Jim Ross defended Vince McMahon for his questionable motivation techniques as he threatened talent with being fired. JR said he saw it “as a challenge and a challenge to do better and refine your work“.
