WWE Hall Of Famer Jeff Jarrett Calls For Proper Send-Off For Retired AEW Star
WWE Hall of Famer and current AEW star Jeff Jarrett has shared his thoughts on the unexpected retirement of wrestling veteran Christopher Daniels.
Daniels, a 30-year industry icon, announced his retirement following his match on the January 18th episode of Collision, leaving fans and peers surprised. Speaking on his podcast, My World, Jeff Jarrett revealed he first heard about Daniels’ decision via text.
“I got the text, I’ll leave it nameless because I just don’t want to reveal the name, and it said, ‘Hey, did you know that was Chris’ last match?’ or something to that effect. And I texted back, ‘Why? Does it have to be?’”
Jarrett admitted the announcement caught him off guard, particularly given the significance of Daniels’ contributions to professional wrestling.
“That caught me off guard, and here’s why. If this is Chris’ call, cool. But man, do you know how many people that get into this business today, or have over the last 30 years—because Chris has been in for about 30 years—not many people get to have the career of a Christopher Daniels.”
Jarrett went on to express his disappointment over how the retirement was handled, believing Daniels deserved more recognition for his storied career.
“If this really is calling it a career, I think the business—deserves is maybe a strong word—but would want, I mean, my god, look what he’s done for this. Let’s give him a little bit better send-off.”
Which Wrestling Character Style Does Jeff Jarrett Believe Does Not Work?
Jeff Jarrett spoke about why he believes that “tweener” wrestling characters don’t work a vast majority of the time. Jarrett said that tweener characters are not marketable as they make it harder for audiences to connect with the character they are in a feud with, especially if that character is a babyface.
