WWE Hall Of Famer Jake Roberts Shares The Type Of Match He Would Never Wrestle In
WWE legend and Hall of Famer Jake “The Snake” Roberts discussed his thoughts on extreme wrestling matches, hinting at the types he might consider if he were still wrestling.
Speaking on his podcast, The Snake Pit, Jake Roberts shared that while he’s open to some intense match styles, there’s a clear line he wouldn’t cross. Reflecting on the variety of special match types popular in wrestling today, Roberts revealed that a Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match is something he’d potentially try if he were still active in the ring. When asked about his interest, Roberts commented:
Maybe a TLC match.
While willing to endure the physicality of a TLC match, Roberts made it clear that he’s not open to participating in more dangerous, ultra-violent formats like Deathmatches. Deathmatches often involve extreme weapons like barbed wire, thumbtacks, and glass, pushing the boundaries of hardcore wrestling. Roberts firmly declined such matches, adding:
No thumbtacks, no glass, none of that bulls**t, no baseball bats. You’re putting your career on the line.
Having wrestled for decades, Roberts understands the physical and mental demands wrestling puts on athletes, emphasising that some extreme elements are simply too hazardous. Reflecting on the long-term consequences these matches can have, Roberts voiced his respect for wrestlers who perform in such settings, though he personally wouldn’t consider crossing that line.
Why Did Jake Roberts Leave Stampede Wrestling For Mid-South?
Jake Roberts spoke about why he decided to leave Stampede Wrestling to join the Mid-South territory in the late 1970s. Roberts said that his decision to join Mid-South was due to a number of reasons including his father working in the territory at the time and the fact that there were a number of experienced wrestlers he wanted to work with and learn from.
