WWE Hall Of Famer Thinks Goldberg Would Benefit From NXT Run

Speculation continues to swirl around Goldberg and a potential comeback.

During Bad Blood, Gunther took it upon himself to taunt Goldberg who was sitting at ringside. In the exchange, he called the Hall of Famer a “one trick pony” and said he hoped he was a better dad than he was a wrestler.

At this, Goldberg jumped the barrier and tried to get at Gunther only to be thwarted by security. Sensing an opportunity, Sami Zayn launched his own assault on the World Champion before the pair were pulled apart.

This coupled with comments from Triple H which left the door very much open for the veteran to wrestle again, sparked talk of a comeback and a match with Gunther.

However, according to Teddy Long, Goldberg might want to consider a short run in NXT before facing the World Heavyweight Champion. Speaking on The Wrestling Time Machine, Long said the former Universal Champion is capable of having more matches, but he needs to prepare properly, something he feels didn’t happen prior to his infamous match with The Undertaker in 2019.

“Well, here’s the thing, I think that was a good thing to tease Gunther and Goldberg. A lot of people thought about Goldberg because of the Bret Hart situation where Bret just kept saying he wasn’t a good worker and he’d hurt you and stuff. I think Goldberg is good for a couple of more matches, maybe more.

But, I think what they didn’t do last time, and I don’t know they may have done this, I don’t know. They should’ve had Goldberg go down to NXT and work out for a couple of weeks, two or three weeks, get the rust off of him and work with Shawn Michaels and some of those guys down there and get it right and then he would’ve been prepared for the match that he had with Taker.

I just think what happened there, I don’t think Goldberg was prepared. I believe if he wants to get a run, if they want to do something with him and Gunther, let him go to NXT, let him stay down there two to three weeks to get it right and I think you’ll have a good match with Goldberg and Gunther.”

Goldberg’s WWE Future Unclear

Despite the tease at Bad Blood, Gunther is currently scheduled to face Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel for the newly minted Crown Jewel Championship.

Furthermore, it’s been reported there are no plans for Gunther vs. Goldberg to take place at Survivor Series or WrestleMania. But as many fans pointed out, that report failed to mention the Royal Rumble which is set to take place on February 1st in Indianapolis.

The WCW legend hasn’t wrestled since losing to Roman Reigns at Elimination Chamber in February 2022.
