WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco Releases Statement on Being Released by WWE After 36 Years, Says He Is Okay With This
A long WWE relationship has come to an end. WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco has worked for nearly 40 years and now his time with the company is over, at least for now. Back in April, Brisco was apparently part of the group of people that were furloughed by WWE for 90 days meaning they were let go by the company with the potential of being brought back. However, Brisco revealed today that he is no longer needed by WWE after talking to WWE’s Chairman Vince McMahon.
Here’s the tweet that Brisco sent out today.
Ok, want to get this out the right way. Last night I received a call from @wwe Chairman Of The board @VinceMcMahon to let me know after 36 years of dedication to @wwe i an no longer needed. Iām ok withthis. I will still be around to help talent. More info will follow. Thanks

WWE Superstar Tucker, who was an accomplished amateur wrestler that Brisco helped to bring to WWE, thanked Brisco for helping him and Brisco said he was proud of all the guys he has helped.

It’s not known if his comment about “I will still be around to help” means he’ll have some sort of new role in WWE or if he just means helping the wrestling business in general.
Brisco is 74 years old in nine days and worked a lot of jobs for WWE such as being an on-air talent as a “stooge” for Vince, but his biggest roles in WWE were behind the scenes where he was one of the most important talent recruiters in WWE history. Names like Brock Lesnar come to mind because Brisco was a big reason why WWE was able to sign Brock out of the University of Minnesota in 2000. There are many other amateur wrestlers that are in WWE in part because of Brisco recruiting them. In addition to that, Brisco di da lot of things like creative team ideas, putting together matches for talent and just being one of Vince McMahon’s closest allies that he could trust.
Brisco and Vince McMahon are very close friends. Here’s a tweet from last September when Vince wished his friend Gerald a happy birthday.
Happy birthday to my good friend, WWE Hall of Famer Gerald Brisco! pic.twitter.com/fSjqFigAoW

During his wrestling career, Brisco had an incredible run holding many NWA Titles for Championship Wrestling from Florida, Georgia Championship Wrestling and Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. His late brother Jack Brisco is also a wrestling legend.
Brisco was inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame in 2008, he was also inducted in the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame and was honored by the Cauliflower Alley Club in 1996.
TJR Thoughts: Age catches up to everyone. It’s not like a 73-year-old man should be working that much at that point in his life, but Brisco has also been a wrestling lifer. Brisco has been so important to WWE behind the scenes since the WrestleMania era began and I don’t think he was working that much anymore. It’s still sad to see that a longtime employee has let go. At least he has a positive attitude about it.
