Why WWE Hall Of Famer Didn’t Want To Be In Elimination Chamber Again

WWE Hall Of Famer Responds To Accusations That They Politicked Their Way To World Title

A WWE legend wasn’t a fan of the Elimination Chamber.

The Elimination Chamber has a reputation as one of the most fearsome matches WWE has ever created. Although the iconic cage has been adapted to make it safer in more recent years, spending too long brawling inside it is still a recipe for disaster.

On a recent episode of Something To Wrestle, JBL looked back at his one and only experience inside the cage. The WWE Hall of Famer took on Chris Jericho, Shawn Michaels, Jeff Hardy, Umaga, and eventual winner Triple H at No Way Out 2008, and it’s fair to say he doesn’t have many fond memories from that February night.

When asked whether the chamber was WWE’s most devastating gimmick match, JBL agreed without hesitation.

“No doubt about it. When they first built it, there was nothing on that structure that didn’t hurt. I mean nothing. It looked like a terrific idea. The original idea, there was nothing about it that was safe. Everything on that thing hurt, and nothing made a noise, so it’s the worst of everything. You hit a freaking floor, it’s just a thud. No noise, but it almost breaks your back.

It was like the Punjabi Prison Match. When they first built that thing, it looked like bamboo, but it was solid steel. When you hit that thing, anything that touched that thing hurt, but it looked fake.

So when you’re hitting it, it’s like the worst of everything. You’re getting beat to hell, and the crowd’s not reacting because it doesn’t look real.

That’s his the Chamber was when it first started. They’ve since made it a lot better. I was glad I was in one, but I didn’t want to be in two.”

WWE Elimination Chamber 2024 Card Set

The 2025 men’s Elimination Chamber match might be the most star-studded edition of the match since its creation back in 2002. The six-man match features no less than five former World Champions as John Cena prepares to step inside the famous structure one last time. The winner will go on to face Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 41.

Or at least that’s the theory. Following his return on SmackDown, it seems like The Rock might have other plans.

The women’s match is also stacked with five former main roster champions, while the sixth spot is taken by two-time NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez. Whoever emerges from the chaos here will challenge Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship at the two-night spectacular in Las Vegas.

You can find the updated card for the event in Toronto, Canada below.
