WWE Hall Of Famer Declares The Road Warriors “The Greatest Tag Team Of All Time”

WWE Hall Of Famer Declares The Road Warriors

WWE Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield weighed in on the long-standing debate over the greatest tag team in wrestling history.

Speaking on the Something to Wrestle podcast, JBL made it clear that, in his opinion, no team comes close to the original Road Warriors—Hawk and Animal.

“No, not even close, and I don’t think there’s a second place. I mean, those guys set the tone for everything. The people that tried to copy the Road Warriors—they were first.

JBL compared their legacy to sports pioneers who changed their fields forever, emphasising how their influence transcended generations.

“It’s kind of like going back and saying, ‘Hey, is Jesse Owens the greatest track guy of all time? Is Roger Bannister the greatest miler of all time?’ There are guys that have run a lot faster now, but their place in history is assured because they were first and they were historic.”

He further elaborated on what made The Road Warriors so special, noting their unmatched presence in the wrestling world.

“The Road Warriors are historic and first, there was nothing like the Road Warriors. Everybody wanted to work with those guys. They were stiff, they were big, and they didn’t sell a lot—but who cared? You drew a ton of money with those guys.”

The Road Warriors, known as The Legion of Doom in WWE, dominated tag team wrestling throughout the 1980s and 1990s. With their intense style, intimidating look, and undeniable impact, they set a standard that many teams have attempted to follow—but, according to JBL, none have surpassed.
