WWE Hall Of Famer Compares Austin Theory Storyline To The Mafia
This former WWE wrestler likened the new Vision saga to Austin Theory as being more in-depth than meets the eye.
Theory was recently revealed to be the masked man who was attacking wrestlers with a Seth Rollins-like stomp to the head in the weeks following his first appearance at Survivor Series: War Games in November, where he helped the heel Faction of The Vision, along with Brock Lesnar, defeat the babyface team.
Once the reveal was complete, Theory wanted to be a part of The Vision, but Paul Heyman, who manages the faction, put him to the test first by pitting him in a tag team match alongside Bronson Reed to face the team of Rey Mysterio and CM Punk.
Theory stomped Mysterio, and he and Reed picked up the win, effectively having Theory enter The Vision stable.
WWE Hall of Famer and Legend Bully Ray, or Bubba Ray Dudley, has read into the recent Austin Theory storyline with The Vision
Bully Ray has made an observation, saying that this storyline mirrors that of the actual mafia, where members need to carry out a task before being made official by “pledging to the fraternity” and proving their worth.
Bully Ray Says Austin Theory’s Angle Is Like The Donnie Brasco Story
Speaking on “Busted Open Radio”, Ray specifically likened Theory’s storyline to real real-life organised crime saga surrounding former FBI agent Joseph D. Pistone, also known as Donnie Brasco. Pistone’s 1988 autobiography titled “Donnie Brasco: My Undercover Life in the Mafia talks about how he once went undercover as a jewel thief named Donnie Brasco in order to infiltrate the Mafia. The book was later famously transformed into a feature film starring Johnny Depp and Al Pacino.
Ray says that the Austin Theory story is a similar slow-burning storyline and has a lot of details in it. He said
This kid might be alright, especially if he proves himself to the two of them. This is a slow burn story. This is paying attention to details. I always say wrestling and the mafia, same thing. It’s like a gang. You want to become a part of a gang, you gotta kind of pledge the gang first or a fraternity, you gotta pledge the fraternity. You gotta prove your worth. But since Heyman always thinks in mafia movie terms in his head, it reminded me of Donnie Brasco.
WWE fans are excited to see what Austin Theory has in store for them next this coming week on RAW. It remains to be seen if The Vision has now officially gotten him on board.
