WWE Hall Of Famer Blasts “Horrible” Press Conferences

A WWE Hall of Famer isn’t a fan of press conferences.

In recent years, both AEW and WWE have held press conferences after their biggest events. However, while AEW’s were, at least initially, done as legitimate press conferences, things in WWE were much more confusing.

Generally speaking, Triple H mostly steers clear of anything character-related, but the company’s wrestlers often switch between “work” and “shoot” comments, seemingly at random.

Not only does this confuse fans who aren’t sure whether they can believe what they’re hearing, but when answers are given in character, they carry little substance. Triple H has also come in for criticism for often pulling the curtain back too far in other instances.

Speaking on Something To Wrestle With, JBL gave his thoughts on the press conferences and delivered a rather blunt assessment.

“Those press conferences are horrible. I hate them because there’s no way to win with those things, because you want to either stay in character or not stay in character. It’s hard to do both. It’s hard to work and then also shoot on those things. I don’t, I don’t get the press conferences.”

JBL Defends WWE Boss Triple H

During the press conference following Money In The Bank, Triple H claimed that R-Truth’s departure and subsequent return were part of the show. However, it had already been reported by several outlets and confirmed by Truth and his son that the situation wasn’t a storyline.

Furthermore, the U-turn had only taken place due to protests from fans and an intervention from Nick Khan.

As a result, The Game came in for heavy criticism for what many fans felt was a needless lie.

Although he was critical of the company’s growing tendency to reveal its “recipes,” JBL praised Triple H for how he handled the situation around R-Truth. He added that it’s now easier to “work” fans than ever before.

“I like what Triple H did, because he kept the intrigue of maybe this was a work all along, and so now you don’t know what is… I love that, because that blurs that line. And I think, I think that’s important to blur that line. Right now is the easiest time to work people. They expect you to be completely transparent. So now is the easiest time to work people.”

On a recent episode of his podcast, Booker T predicted that Ron Killings’ current storyline will see him become World Champion.
