Why WWE Hall Of Famer Feels John Cena’s Heel Turn Has Been Magnificent

John Cena heel promo on WWE Raw

A wrestling legend has praised John Cena’s work as a heel in WWE.

There have been many people who have chimed in to remark about John Cena’s heel turn on Cody Rhodes at Elimination Chamber. The WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H called it the most powerful moment he has seen in WWE, while Hall of Famer John Bradshaw Layfield claimed that Cena’s turn “transcended the genre” of pro wrestling.

Mick Foley is another WWE Hall of Famer who spent most of his career as a babyface wrestler like Cena, but he had a lot of success as a heel as well.

While speaking to CardPlayer, Foley admitted that he was surprised when Cena kicked Cody Rhodes in the groin to go heel leading up to their WrestleMania 41 match for the WWE Title.

“I was surprised. I heard about it; I think I was on the road when it happened. I watched it back and we were marveling about how we knew it was John Cena, but he’d almost taken on a transformation. He almost looked like a different human being. I think all the years in Hollywood have served him well because the look on his eyes was so realistic.”

The “Hardcore Legend” Foley went on to talk about Cena’s special connection with WWE fans while calling it a “magnificent turn.”

”It didn’t look overblown. It wasn’t like he was playing to the top row of the upper level, which can look silly in high definition. It was a magnificent turn. I applaud everyone involved for having the guts to carry it out.

I am worried about those kids who love Cena, but most of those kids are 20 years old now. I think they can understand and he still has a very powerful connection with the younger fans.”

Mick Foley Thinks That John Cena Haters Will Like Him As A Heel

When discussing Cena’s heel turn further, Foley spoke about how the same fans who booed Cena as a babyface in the past could end up supporting him as an entertaining heel.

”This is so good. This is so powerful. People have to remember it. The ironic thing is that it’s going to cause the people who hated him to love him and going to cause the people who love him to hate him. It’s still going to be a 50-50 split. It’s just a completely different 50-50 split.”
