WWE Hall Of Famer Thinks John Cena’s Heel Turn “Transcended The Genre”
John Cena is preparing for a seminal moment.
Now that the dust has settled on John Cena’s remarkable heel turn at Elimination Chamber, one question is looming above all others. What comes next?
Cena hasn’t appeared on television since attacking Cody Rhodes at the behest of The Rock, but that will all change on the March 17 edition of Raw. After Rhodes repeatedly blasted Cena in a series of promos, it was announced that the pair would be under the same roof in Brussels, Belgium.
John Cena Is Heading For A Huge Turning Point
Speculation is running wild about how Cena will change his presentation, tweak his character, and reinvent himself as he prepares to face Rhodes at WrestleMania. But according to one Hall of Famer, Cena has already made an incredible impact.
While appearing on Something To Wrestle, JBL was asked about Cena’s upcoming appearance on Raw and impending face-to-face with Rhodes.
“I am so glad you used the term seminal moment because that’s the exact phrase that I use, not that that gives justification to the phrase or to you, but that’s the way I love to describe it because you’ve got to have a seminal moment for a big heel turn.
I’m talking about one that is between two guys that’s going to carry pay-per-views. I’m not talking about your lower-card guys. Every heel that has transcended the genre, which is what Cena has done, Cena’s done it before he was a heel, now he’s a heel that has transcended the genre, has had to have a seminal moment, a reason to escalate.
Whether that is an escalation, whether that is an explanation, whatever that is, you’ve got to have a seminal moment. That moment is still to come. I think it probably happens today, and if not, it’s going to happen soon.
I have a feeling it’s going to be very good. But you’ve got to have that. For a major heel to go with a major babyface, you’ve got to have that seminal moment. It’s the most important thing you do in a storyline,”
While JBL can’t wait to see what happens on Raw, Jake Roberts was recently much less enthusiastic about John Cena, suggesting he lacks the “It factor” of other legends. When asked what he thought Cena was missing, Roberts was unable to pin down something tangible, explaining that he felt he never “had that magic in him.”
