WWE Teasing Four Major Matches; Possibly For WrestleMania 40
There have been recent teases of big WWE matches with a new report suggesting that several of them are likely for WrestleMania 40.
This past Monday on Raw, the NXT Women’s Champion Becky Lynch was backstage when Indi Hartwell & Candice LeRae went up to “The Man” for a chat. Hartwell noted that Lynch was giving a lot of women opportunities at the NXT Women’s Title, so Hartwell wondered if she could get a shot. Lynch agreed to it.
When Lynch left that conversation with Hartwell, she walked right into the WWE Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley. It was not the first time that Lynch and Ripley have had a staredown like that. The two women have largely been kept apart since the WWE Draft back in May.
On the October 13 edition of Smackdown, Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns was back for the first time in two months. During the show, he had a staredown with his WrestleMania 39 challenger, Cody Rhodes. The fans popped big for it since it was Roman and Cody’s first interaction since last April.
That same staredown between Roman and Cody also saw Jey Uso (a Tag Team Champion with Cody Rhodes at the time) have a staredown with his brother Jimmy Uso. On the following Raw, Jimmy was the reason Jey & Cody lost the Tag Team Titles to Damian Priest & Finn Balor because of Jimmy superkicking his brother.
Last week’s “Season Premiere” of Smackdown also saw Jade Cargill meet Charlotte Flair as well. Charlotte said: “It’s nice to meet you.” Jade replied: “It’s my pleasure” and Flair responded with: “Oh, it will be.” Cargill also had a face to face with Lynch and appeared on NXT as well over the last week.
In the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer wrote that all of these interactions have a purpose as a way to tease big matches.
“Right now based on things told to me and staredowns on television, whether this is for Mania or another big show, the “down the line” teases this week were Reigns vs. Rhodes, Ripley vs. Lynch, Jimmy vs. Jey and Flair vs. Cargill.”
Rhea Ripley defending Women’s World Title at WWE Crown Jewel
The current champions in WWE might be rumored for title matches at WrestleMania already, but it all depends on whether their title reigns continue.
In Rhea Ripley’s case, she has to defend the Women’s World Title at Crown Jewel on November 4th against Nia Jax, Raquel Rodriguez, Shayna Baszler, and Zoey Stark.
The two main men’s titles will be on the line at Crown Jewel as well as Roman Reigns defends the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against LA Knight, which became official on Friday.
Seth “Freakin” Rollins will also defend the World Heavyweight Title at Crown Jewel against Drew McIntyre. There should be more matches announced over the next two weeks.
