Why WWE Extending Ex-Champion’s Contract Makes No Sense
Triple H and WWE have been questioned after a former champion’s contract was recently extended despite their continued absence.
In January 2025, Omos wrapped up an impressive run in Japan, with hopes that he’d return to WWE and take the company by storm.
Despite being recalled from his starring role with Pro Wrestling NOAH, Omos is yet to return to WWE television, once again finding himself on the sidelines. The star hasn’t featured for the company since taking part in the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal in April 2024.
Omos originally signed with WWE in 2019, before going on to enjoy the most successful run of his career next to AJ Styles a year later, where the pair won the Raw Tag Team Championship. Despite his long absence, Omos revealed he’s recently signed a new contract, so the company could well have plans for the giant star.
Why Has WWE Re-Signed Omos?
Speaking on Writing With Russo, former WWE writer Vince Russo explained why he doesn’t understand WWE bothering to sign up Omos to a new deal:
I don’t know why. Because that’s the thing, the longer you have had somebody and the longer we have seen him, the less there’s a chance of them ever getting him over. Because you have left us with memories and you have not booked him well and you have not really done him justice and everytime somebody sees him, that’s what they are gonna think.
